I studied art at Cal State San Jose & Cal State Los Angeles Universities, where I earned my B.A. in Art, but I didn't start painting until 1989, after raising a family & teaching elementary school. Since then I have studied watercolor painting with Martha Underwood at Chaffey College and have taken workshops from Stephen Quiller, Robert E. Wood, Don O'Neill, Christopher Schink, Judi Betts, Gerald Brommer, Doug Walton & Frank Webb.
My paintings have been in local and national shows and have won many awards including First Place & Best of Show awards, Grumbacher Medals and a Special Award from Pomona Cultural Arts Commission. I am active in local Art Associations and my work is in private and corporate collections.
Rather than painting a scene as it exists, I usually work from several photographs at a time, changing, editing and combining until I arrive at a composition that satisfies me. I paint in transparent watercolor because the thin veils of color allow the beauty of the paper to show through, creating a luminosity not possible with other media. I am drawn to scenes that have a strong light and dark pattern and I often create the feeling of light in my paintings by saving the white paper and by adding strong, colorful shadows.
I hope you enjoy my paintings. If you would like more information or would like to purchase a painting, please me.Do you have website questions, comments, or suggestions? Contact our
